Winter brings colds and flus.... especially when kids are at school or in care. They may fight over toys, but are more than willing to share their germs. I am always reluctant to race to the chemist straight away when my kids are sick. I really don't know what is in the medicine they may give me. This in itself is risky with a child with severe allergies.
I prefer to seek alternative cures that help support the immune system to do it's job. I have found the following to be great for sore throats, coughs and colds:
- 2 Tablespoons of organic honey
- 2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 Tablespoons glycerine ( found in health food stores)
Mix altogether until combined. Take by the spoonful throughout the day.
* I also add Vitamin C powder, echinacea and olive leaf extract ( if a fever is present).
The mixture is really sweet and will mask the flavour of echinacea.
